I have a glass globe and want to make a pendant

I have a glass globe: we turn it into a pendant light
If you have a glass globe or shade, you can hang it from the ceiling as a lamp. We only need three details: whether the opening has a neck, its diameter and the total width of the globe. With that we show the cap that holds it, the ceiling rose, the cord grips, the cable, the lampholder and a bulb that goes through the opening.
What it includes and what each part is for
- Your globe With or without a neck. Measure the opening on the outside, at its widest point, and the total width of the globe.
- Cap Metal, slightly wider than the opening. With side screws if it has a neck; with a spring if it does not.
- Spring Holds a globe without a neck inside the cap. We add it: a larger one if the globe is over 250 mm.
- Ceiling rose and cord grips Metal ceiling rose and cord grips, to carry the weight of the glass.
- Fabric cable Sold by the metre. We suggest 2 m and you can change it.
- Lampholder and bulb An LED bulb that goes through the opening. For globes of 120 mm or less, E14 only.
You do not have to work anything out: the configurator counts these parts for what you choose.
How it goes together
- Measure your globe: the opening on the outside, at its widest point, and the total width of the globe.
- Decide how high you want it and measure from the ceiling; leave a little extra cable for the connections.
- Thread the cable through the ceiling rose and top cord grip, then through the cap and lower cord grip; connect both wires to the lampholder and assemble it.
- With the power off, connect the cable to the ceiling wires and fix the ceiling rose.
- Screw in the bulb and fit the globe in the cap: tighten the side screws or use the spring.
Always make the connections with the power off and fit the globe carefully: it is glass. If you have no experience with electrical work, ask an electrician to do them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my globe has a neck?
The neck is a narrow rim around the opening, where the cap screws tighten. If the opening is smooth, sometimes with a small lip, it is a globe without a neck.
Where do I measure the opening?
On the outside, at its widest point: the cap must cover it with room to spare.
Why do you ask for the total width?
Because it determines the spring (a larger one above 250 mm) and the lampholder: in globes of 120 mm or less only E14 fits.
What if no cap appears?
If there is no cap that fits your globe, we cannot assemble it safely. Press «Questions? An expert checks your lamp» and we will look at it with you.
