Pendant light with glass globe, with a cap made to fit
A glass globe is held by a metal cap that has to match its size. You start by choosing the globe and the configurator shows the cap that fits it, the ceiling rose, the cord grips, the cable, the lampholder and a bulb that goes through its opening. If the globe needs a spring or another part to hold it, we add it.
What it includes and what each part is for
- Glass globe With or without a neck. It decides the cap, the lampholder and the bulb.
- Cap With side screws for globes with a neck; without screws, with a spring, for globes without one. Slightly wider than the globe opening.
- Spring Holds a globe without a neck inside the cap. We add it according to the globe size; special globes with an adapter do not need one.
- Ceiling rose and cord grips As with the other pendants, but with metal cord grips, which carry the weight of the glass.
- Fabric cable Sold by the metre. We suggest 2 m and you can change it.
- Lampholder and bulb E14 or E27, depending on the globe size; some special globes use G9 and an adapter, which we add. An LED bulb that goes through the globe opening.
You do not have to work anything out: the configurator counts these parts for what you choose.
How it goes together
- Decide how high you want the globe and measure from the ceiling; leave a little extra cable for the connections.
- Thread the cable through the ceiling rose and the top cord grip, then fix the cord grip to the ceiling rose.
- Thread the cable through the cap and the lower cord grip, connect both wires to the lampholder and assemble it with the cap between the cord grip and the lampholder.
- With the power off, connect the cable to the ceiling wires and fix the ceiling rose.
- Screw in the bulb and fit the globe in the cap as its type requires: with the side screws, the spring or the adapter.
Always make the connections with the power off and fit the globe carefully: it is glass. If you have no experience with electrical work, ask an electrician to do them.
Frequently asked questions
With or without a neck?
A globe with a neck has a narrow rim that goes into the cap and is held by its side screws. A globe without a neck is held by a cap without screws and a spring, which we add.
How do I know which cap I need?
You do not have to measure anything: the inside of the cap must be 1 to 10 mm wider than the globe opening, and we only show caps that meet that size.
Which bulb can I use?
An LED bulb that goes through the globe opening. For globes of 120 mm or less, E14 only; for larger ones, E14 or E27. Some special globes only take G9: then we only show G9 bulbs.
Why metal cord grips?
Because glass weighs more than other shades, and metal cord grips carry it better.
What if I already have a globe?
Use «I have a glass globe and want to make a pendant»: you tell us what your globe is like and we give you the parts to hang it.
